FIFA16 poses some new challenges with gameplay compared to the last edition of the EA Sports franchise, but the problems with West Ham’s squad are still largely the same.

If you’re a FIFA player who loves pace and power, this is definitely the career mode for you to take on. The whole West Ham squad, compiled by both Bilic and Allardyce, is blessed with powerful runners and and rock solid defenders and has many players that are a blessing to play with.

Naturally, Dimitri Payet is the player you must look to build your team around. The Frenchman is far and away your highest rated player and has the dribbling skills to help you dance through any defence.

Three to buy…

Alvaro Morata: An overly ambitious buy, yes, but the world of FIFA makes these sort of dreams come true for any West ham fan. Morata will swallow up a large percentage of your budget, but, with sales, the Juventus centre forward is definitely affordable and is the perfect front man to lead the line with Payet and Lanzini behind him.

Morata begins at about an 81 and is a very complete striker. His finishing is high, but his height, pace and power make him versatile for whatever kind of FIFA player you are.

Kelechi Iheanacho: Assuming Diafra Sakho is your backup striker, Iheanacho would be the ideal level of player to have as your third choice. Pop the City man in for the odd cup game, train him up and you will have yourself a real gem within about a season and a half.

Iheanacho begins around a 70, so get him trained on finishing and chance creation and you will have a player ready to compete with Morata in a couple of seasons.

Daley Blind: The ultimate utility man has some mouthwatering stats on FIFA 16. Ball control of 80 and a great passing range makes Blind a good option in a back three or he can slot in as a replacement for Mark Noble in central midfield.

Blind’s versatility would mean you have extra cover for Cresswell, Noble and Reid for under £10 million.

Three to sell…

Andy Carroll: Unless you are one of the rare route one FIFA players, Andy Carroll should be one of the first players you ship out the door.

As in real life, Carroll’s touch and acceleration are too poor to make him of any use in your squad and he does not fit in with the profile of the rest of the squad.

Joey O’Brien: The arrival of Byram and Jenkinson’s loan make O’Brien completely surplus to requirement in the Hammers’ squad. A utility defender, like Daley Blind, might be needed, but O’Brien is nowhere near up to the standard to fill in meaningfully in any role.

You won’t recoup much of a transfer fee, but the wages could come in handy.

Nikica Jelavic: Carroll, Sakho and Jelavic are not up to standard considering the quality of the rest of the attack and none of the three are much fun to play as compared to Antonio, Payet or Lanzini.

Jelavic, unless he’s already gone to China by the time you start your save, should be one of the players you sell first – due to his pretty average all round game. As ever on FIFA, players with no stand out attributes are not much fun.

Train ’em up…

Reece Oxford: Oxford can, in effect, become anything you want him to be from the start of your save. Despite his low starting rating, the starlet can go up as many as 15 ratings during the first season if you train him correctly and you will quickly have a quality player on your hands.

It is up to you how you develop his skill set, but Oxford is more naturally a central midfielder and he can form a mammoth partnership with Kouyate.

Sam Byram: Sam Byram was one of the best signings of the January transfer window and his acquisition fortunately means you won’t be having to start Carl Jenkinson all that often.

Byram has a lot of potential in FIFA 16 and the youngster should be given game time from the start of your save despite his slightly disappointing overall rating. Training, as with any youngster, is crucial if you want Byram to reach the dizzy heights of the 80 ratings.

Cheikhou Kouyate: Despite his age, Kouyate is still ‘promising’ on this year’s FIFA and he can be built into a Lidl-version of Yaya Toure. From the beginning of your save, it’ll be great fun to use Kouyate as a battering ram, but the more you train his technical ability the greater asset he will become to your squad.
