Dan Sheldon of The Daily Echo has revealed that there is a ‘good chance’ that the signing of Kyle Walker-Peters on loan until the end of the season will be announced today.
What’s the word, then?
Well, The Sun revealed on Monday that the Saints had beaten Crystal Palace to the Tottenham academy graduate’s signature.
The England U21 international has found game time hard to come by this season, making only three Premier League appearances and five in all competitions.
Walker-Peters has found things even more difficult since Jose Mourinho was appointed, failing to play a single second of Premier League action since the Portuguese boss replaced former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino in November.
A much-needed addition
The right-back position has been one lacking depth for Southampton this season.
Cedric Soares has been the area’s main occupant having made 16 Premier League starts this term, as well as one FA Cup appearance and two Carabao Cup outings – one of which he netted against Portsmouth in.
His only competition has been Yan Valery, although the Frenchman has barely been available having failed to feature since November with what the Southampton website describe as a ‘viral infection’.
Walker-Peters’ potential arrival comes as even more welcome news given Arsenal’s interest in Cedric, according to The Telegraph.
The Gunners are eyeing up the Portugal international in a cut-price deal with his contract set to expire in the summer, while it seems unlikely that he will sign fresh terms seeing as he revealed his intentions to leave the club at the end of the campaign.
Idiots Abroad: Do you know where these famous Brits are playing now?
It has been 28 days without a signing for the south coast side, although if Sheldon is to be believed, today could be the day that we finally see a new addition arrive at St Mary’s in an area in great need of bolstering.Â
In other news, Southampton would be back to square one if they sanctioned one in, one out transfer deals…
