The former Manchester City forward has seen a return to the Premier League speculated on as questions are asked of Mohamed Salah’s long-term future at Anfield. If the Egyptian superstar were to move on, amid links to teams in Saudi Arabia, then Jurgen Klopp would need another proven performer to slot in on the right of his attack.

Sane is well versed in the demands of English football, and should be approaching his peak at 27 years of age, but Norbert Elgert – who previously worked with the Germany international within Schalke’s youth ranks – believes transfer rumours should be ignored. He has told GOAL and SPOX: “With his style of play, he would make every top international and domestic team stronger. In my opinion, he is currently in the best of hands at FC Bayern.”
WHAT THEY SAID
Sane is under contract at the Allianz Arena through to 2025 and has rediscovered his spark of late after making a slow start to life at Bayern. He registered 14 goals and nine assists across all competitions last season, and has already found the target on seven occasions this term under Thomas Tuchel. Elgert added on an exciting talent: “Leroy has played a lot of really good games in the past, but at the moment he is consistently playing at an extremely high level and is stronger than ever before. Leroy has become more mature and experienced and uses his enormous speed in both directions much more often and more effectively. He has become even more consistent and dangerous when it comes to scoring, and at the same time more helpful to the team. He has also made a huge leap forward in his backward movement and in his play without the ball.”

Sane spent four seasons with City between 2016 and 2020, scoring 39 goals in 145 appearances and helping the Manchester giants to two Premier League titles, but he is now closing in on 150 outings for Bayern and has become a key part of Tuchel’s plans – meaning that Liverpool may have to look elsewhere if they find themselves in the market for a Salah replacement.
